Pictures from the Week

For this last week, we thought we would share pictures from the week rather than write a lot about it.

Driving through Bawjiase on our way to Abomosu.

Typical of what we see in our travels to the apartments further out in the mission.

Abomosu District Council in the Abomosu Zone (farthest north in mission).

Heavy rain looking from our front porch.

A truck filled with farm workers and a typical taxi.

Akrofufu apartment inspection (Abomosu Zone) with Elder Omerigwe and Elder Kroll.

Asuom apartment inspection (Abomosu Zone) with Elder Anderson and Elder Rawlings.

New Abirem apartment inspection (Abomosu Zone) with Elder Cichos and Elder Roche.

Palm oil fruit bunches

Below is a link to a YouTube video on how palm oil (popular Ghanaian cooking oil) is made.  In addition to how the palm oil is obtained from the palm oil fruit cluster, you will see what we see every day in the living conditions and daily life of the Ghanaians.  Also, Ghanaians in villages like this one usually do not know English and only speak Twi or Fante, the tribal languages.  Ghanaians generally speak English only when they have to.  Otherwise, they speak the tribal language.

In Ghana, each person has a name based on the day of the week on which they were born.  Elder Judd's name is Kwame because he was born on a Saturday.

Sister Judd's name is Afia because she was born on a Friday.

Ebenezer and Isaac brought us a new stove, this is Isaac's young son who came with them.

Elder Yobana and Elder Beresford are two of the missionaries who live in the other house in our compound.
Elder Yobana is from D.R. Congo and Elder Beresford is from England.  The other missionaries in the compound are Elder Kaufusi from Australia and Elder Manakofua from Tonga.  This is representative of the 37 countries from which the missionaries in the Ghana Accra West Mission come.

It was the Winneba Stake Conference on Sunday.  This is the stake choir.  The women in the choir had made matching dresses for stake conference.  Everyone in the choir sang so joyfully!

Branch/ward conference and stake conference are big events to the Ghanaian saints.  Many who may not come to regular church services will come to conferences.

These sisters wanted their picture taken with Sister Judd.  They are from the Apam Branch where we attended two weeks ago on Easter, and they were at the Winneba Stake Conference.

General Conference last weekend was amazing!  It was a little interesting watching live sessions with the 6 hour time difference.  It is a good thing we could watch the delayed recording later.  As we are studying the conference talks we are going to apply what we learned from Elder Bednar and come up with a five word summary for each talk in order to focus on what we learn from each one.

President Nelson's message was particularly inspiring, helping us to intentionally value and appreciate the importance in our lives of priesthood keys and rejoice in our blessings because priesthood keys have been restored.

President Nelson said, "Priesthood keys give us the authority to extend all of the blessings promised to Abraham to every covenant-keeping man and woman.  Temple work makes these exquisite blessings available to all of God's children, regardless of where or when they lived or now live.  Let us rejoice that priesthood keys are once again on the earth!"

How truly wonderful it is!!

We love you!

Love,
Elder and Sister Judd
